 How to format a write-protected USB flash drive or memory card

 

  1. Open start menu, in the search bar typeregedit and press Enter. This will open the registry editor.
  2. Navigate to the following path:
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
  4. Note: If the registry keyStorageDevicePolicies does not exist, you will need to create it manually.
     Highlight Storage Device Policies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named asWrite Protect.
  5. Highlight Storage Device Policies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named asWrite Protect.
  6.  Double click the keyWriteProtect in the right window and set the value to 0 in theValue Data Boxand press OK button.
  7.  Restart the computer and try formatting USB drive.
